MAUSTON, Wis. –Baseball season is officially underway for Gladstone.
The Braves collided with three teams in Wisconsin for weekend action. Here’s what went down.
Kewaunee 7, Gladstone 4
The Braves never led in their season opener. And while they hung around within one run for a majority of the game, the Storm blasted six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Braves responded with four runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a RBI single from senior Isaac Ketchum, a two-run triple from Davin Mattonen and a RBI groundout from Nate Beauchamp, but it wasn’t enough for the Braves to fully climb out of the deficit.
Ketchum finished 2-for-3. Sophomore Cooper Sanville allowed one earned run off two hits with two walks and three strikeouts across four innings in the loss. Beauchamp allowed six runs off four hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
Gladstone 3, Oostburg 2
Senior Casey Alworden broke a 2-2 tie with a two-out opposite field RBI single to score Bret Seger for a 3-2 lead. Junior Trevor Thorbahn slammed the door shut in the seventh, striking out two while allowing one hit to earn the save and seal Gladstone’s first win of the season. Senior Gavin Frossard finished 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Seger added a double, a RBI, a run scored and drew two walks.
Senior Austin Pepin earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) off two hits with two walks and three strikeouts across three innings. Frossard allowed two hits with two walks and four strikeouts in three shutout innings of relief.
