MAUSTON, Wis. –When one outscores their opponents 37-7 in three games, they have to be doing something right, right?

Escanaba softball accomplished exactly that with three lopsided wins this weekend in Wisconsin. Here’s what went down.

Escanaba 19, Rhinelander 3

The Hodags surrendered five runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run single from senior Katey Lamb, a two-run double from senior Maddy Mott and a RBI double from junior Addison Noblet.

Then the Eskymos really sank their teeth in the batter’s box in the third inning. Junior Harlee Coolman roped a RBI double. Noblet, senior Clara Braun and senior Grayson LaMarche proceeded to rip back-to-back-to-back RBI singles for a 9-0 lead.

Then Lamb reminded everyone why she was a First Team All-State selection last season. She belted a three-run home run for a 12-0 lead.

Senior McKenzie Engebretson later scored on a passed ball. Noblet, Braun and LaMarche once again ripped back-to-back-to-back RBI singles as the lead grew to 15-0.

In the pitcher’s circle LaMarche was everything you’d expect from the senior. She hurled two hitless innings, walking one and striking out six while finishing 3-for-3 with two RBI in the batter’s box. Junior Cam Buckley went the rest of the way, allowing three runs off three hits with two walks and two strikeouts across three innings of work.

Noblet finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Engebretson also went 3-for-3, scoring three runs. Lamb, Braun and Coolman each had multi-hit games and combined for eight RBIs and six runs scored. Coolman also stole three bases. Landry Bray added a RBI triple off the bench.

LaMarche finished 2-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Junior Chloe Dubord went 1-for-2 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. Coolman swiped two bases.

Bray earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit and six walks. LaMarche fanned four across two hitless innings of relief.

Escanaba 9, Byron 2

While the score was tied 1-1 midway through three innings, the Eskymos cracked the Bears’ pitching the second time through the lineup. RBI singles from Dubord and Engebretson, a RBI triple from Lamb and a two-run double from Mott highlighted a five-run inning for a 6-1 lead entering the fourth frame.

LaMarche finished 3-for-4 from the dish and allowed two unearned runs off two hits with a walk and 15 strikeouts across seven innings of work.

Bray earned two triples, a RBI and scored one run. Dubord, Lamb and Engebretson all had multi-hit games and combined for four RBIs and runs scored. The Eskymos had the same amount of strikeouts from the batter’s box (2) as the Bears had hits (2).
