NORWAY — Runs were at a premium on Thursday.

Fortunately for Escanaba baseball, it walked away with the game’s lone two runs in the top of the sixth inning for a narrow 2-0 road win over Norway.

The Eskymos, who extended their winning streak to six-straight with the victory over the reigning Division 4 state runner up, saw junior Cannon Arnt go stride-for-stride with the Knights’ Owen Baij. The duo combined to allow five hits and strikeout 18 batters.

Then Baij was pulled after the fifth inning when he reached 79 pitches. The Eskymos took full advantage.

Freshman Bryce Bichler led off the sixth by reaching first base off an error from Knights senior Cole Baij. Bichler second and later advanced to third off an Ashton Rymkos groundout.

Then sophomore Mikaiden Hughes continued his red-hot start to the season, scoring Bichler off a single to center field for a 1-0 lead.

Hughes later stole second, and down to the last out of the inning junior Lennox Peacock came up to the plate. He hurled four perfect innings against Iron Mountain a day earlier, but on this day he roped a double to center field, scoring Hughes and adding a crucial insurance run for a 2-0 lead.

Art slammed the door shut in the bottom of the sixth, walking one and striking out two. Rymkos allowed one hit in the seventh, but also mustered flyouts to left field, center field and right field to earn the save and clinch the win.

Peacock finished 2-for-3 with the RBI double. Alex Ison finished 1-for-3 from the plate.

The Eskymos make their awaited 2025 debut at Al Ness Field at 5 p.m. Monday to host Menominee.

Starting at $3.50/week.
