Bay softball swept by GRCC

ESCANABA — The Bay College softball team gave 100 percent effort but in the end were swept in a Thursday and Friday doubleheader against Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). On Thursday the Raiders won the first game 15-0 and the second game 11-2 and on Friday the Raiders won game one 14-0 and game two 8-0.
“These girls have gave 100 percent this entire season,” Norse coach John Garris said. “Some of them have never played softball before but they give it all they have I couldn’t be more proud of them for that.”
The Raiders scored four runs in the first inning of game one on Thursday. Grace Chisek hit a two-run single and Maddie Miller and Violet McWinnie each had RBIs in the first inning.
Stowe pitched a complete game no-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
In game two Thursday, the Raiders scored five runs in the fourth inning highlighted by an RBI double by Addison Nemecek to put the Raiders up 6-0.
The Norse got on the board in the fifth inning as McKayla Mott and Anna Boutillier each had RBI singles to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Raiders put the game away scoring five runs in the sixth inning to take the contest.
On Friday in game one, Nina Bower took the loss for the Norse allowing five runs on four hits with three strikeouts but is a player that can play any position.
“Nina is an all-around athlete,” Garris said. “We have her pitch, she can play infield, outfield or catcher what ever we need her to do she can do it.”
Macey Springer got the win in game one on Friday for the Raiders allowing only one hit with eight strikeouts.
The Raiders scored three runs in each of the first two innings, highlighted by an RBI double by Chisek.
In game two on Friday, The Raiders scored nine runs in the first inning. Chisek got an RBI single to get the scoring started for the Raiders.
The Raiders added a run in the second inning after Natalie Beck grounded out scoring a run.
In the third inning, Chisek singled scoring one and Lauren Wiley alson had an RBI single. Paige Arthur drew a wak to score a run and Grace Salley singled scoring three more runs for the Raiders. Chisek doubled scoring another run as well as a second run scoring on an error.
Beck picked up the win for the Raiders allowing zero runs on two hits with seven strikeouts.
The Norse will be back at home this weekend for a Friday and Saturday doubleheader against Muskegon Community College.
