Sports flashback Feb. 9-15

Feb. 10, 1960 — The Bark River-Harris Broncos won their third straight in a 75-61 basketball triumph over the Trenary Comets. Jerry Sundquist collected 21 points and 15 rebounds. Ken Casperson hit 17 points and Leo Luchay had 12 for the Broncos. Tom Harris paced the Comets with 33 points.

Feb. 13, 1960 — The Escanaba Eskymos gained a share of the Great Lakes Conference lead with a 64-52 victory over the Manistique Emeralds. Tom Butler scored 25 points and Barry Andrews had 15 points and 22 rebounds for Esky. Phil Carlson hit 17 points and Rick Larson tallied 11 points and 15 boards for Manistique.

The Powers-Spalding Tigers clinched the Little Seven Conference title in a 63-59 triumph over the Felch Forresters. Bernard DeLoughary paced the Tigers with 15 points. Bill Murray scored 11 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Tom Butch tallied 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Gladstone Braves from dropping a 74-54 decision to Marquette. Jerry Olive added 11.

Feb. 10, 1965 — The Carney-Nadeau Wolves set a single game school rebounding record while in a 97-49 basketball rout of the Perkins Yellowjackets. Cliff Perras collected 28 points and 28 boards for the Wolves, who grabbed 80 rebounds. Dick LaChance led Perkins with 24 points.

Feb. 13, 1965 — Ron Povolo scored 35 points, leading the Hermansville Redskins past the Alpha Mastadons 105-63. Doug LaCoursier added 24. Harry Gordon hit 13 and Marty Smith had 10.

Feb. 15, 1965 — Paul Miller tossed in 23 points as the Escanaba Eskymos posted a 74-57 victory over the Manistique Emeralds. Jerry Hanson added 15 points and Dave Nyquist finished with 12 points and Jim Boyle had nine points and 10 rebounds. Eric Blomquist scored 12 points and Doug Nelson had 11 for the Emeralds.

The Rock Little Giants ended a two-game losing streak in a 63-48 conquest of Bark River-Harris. Bob Maki paced the Little Giants with 24 points. Dave Bolm and Jim Hooker led the Broncos with 14 apiece.

The Holy Name Crusaders were limited to five offensive rebounds in a 68-50 loss at Menominee. Walt Veldman hit 14 points and Frank Trotter had 10 for the Crusaders. Pat Miller paced the Maroons with 27.
