CARNEY — It was a milestone night Tuesday as Carney-Nadeau senior Sam Salo joined the 1,000-point club in a Skyline Central Conference boys’ basketball game against Bark River-Harris.

“I was happy to get it over early,” Salo said. “I thought back to all the players I have seen hit a 1,000 points here, there are so many good players that have done it and to be able to join the list feels great.”

The Broncos won 89-55, with three players in double figures.

Brayden Derouin had 24 points for the Broncos, Olin Johnson added 21 and Jacob Mileski added 17.

The Wolves led 20-19 in the second quarter when Bark River-Harris went on an 11-0 run highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by Mileski, who had 11 of his 17 points in the second.

“The shots were falling and feeling good,” Mileski said. “I was able to get space and create open shots and I was able to knock them down.”

The Wolves responded with a 3-pointer by Cullen Kasbohm, who had 19 points in the game.

The Broncos went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter as Derouin went hard to the basket drawing the foul and converting on the three-point play to extend the Broncos lead to 50-37.

Gionni McDonough drove to the basket for a layup and moments later, Derouin knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 55-37.

“We were kind of sluggish early on,” Derouin said. “We came out hot in the second half, made some big shots and we were able to stretch out the lead.”

McDonough took the pass off the steal and took it to the basket for the layup and Derouin added a layup to close out the run and extend the Broncos’ lead to 54-37.

The Broncos put the game away in the fourth quarter as Johnson had 10 of his 21 points.

The Wolves return to action Friday by hosting Felch North Dickinson and the Broncos host Crystal Falls Forest Park Friday.
