Esky hockey drops two games to stiff downstate competition

TRENTON — In its latest trip under the bridge, Escanaba hockey battled with some of the best teams in state of Michigan in Trenton this weekend. Here’s what went down:

No. 5 Salem 7, Escanaba 3

The Eskymos opened weekend action with a loss to the No. 5 team in Division 1. Salem scored 10 second into the game and claimed a 3-1 lead into intermission. Keagan Braun totaled a goal and two assists. Nick Martinson and Graham Johnson also found the back of the net. Ben Sands, Nolan Bink and Owen LaBonte added a helper a piece. Culley Hayes faced 36 shots as Esky rifled 24 shots on net.

No. 3 Trenton 5, Esky 2

The competition stayed fierce as the Eskymos collided with the No. 3 team in Division 2 on Saturday.

Trenton took a 1-0 lead 12 seconds into the game and led 2-1 entering the first intermission.

Johnson tallied a goal and an assist. LaBonte also found the back of the net. Bink and Cale Carter each added an assist.
