HARRIS — A 25-point effort, including the game winning shot, by junior Brayden Derouin propelled Bark River-Harris boys’ basketball to a 54-51 victory over Manistique here Tuesday.

“I trust my teammates and they trust me,” Derouin said. “My teammates did a great job of moving the ball and making good passes. I took the ball around the defender, put up the shot and hoped for the best.”

Alex Bonneau had a big game for the Emeralds with 22 points. Bonneau knocked down a 3-pointer early in the third quarter to tie the game at 30.

The Broncos responded with a layup by sophomore Ben Knauf that put them up by three.

Bonneau answered with his second 3-pointer of the third quarter to put the Emeralds back in front 35-34.

Sophomore Gionni McDonough drove to the basket for a layup as the Broncos recaptured the lead at 36-35.

“I like to coach those kind of games,” Broncos’ coach Nicholas Lippens said. “We did some good things and we saw some things we can do better as we head into districts.”

Bonneau attacked the basket for a layup to put the Emeralds up 37-36. Moments later, after a pair of free throws gave the Broncos the lead. Kavin Jackson drove through the lane for a layup and the Emeralds regained the lead at 39-38. D.J. Bellville extended the Emeralds lead on a layup off a Broncos turnover to 41-38.

Olin Johnson responded with a layup to cut the deficit to one and Derouin scored a layup to start the fourth quarter to give the Broncos the lead at 42-41.

“I think we took care of the ball better than we have in the past,” Emeralds coach Cody Kangas said. “Hopefully we can take this same intensity into our district game on Monday .”

Bellville drove through the lane for a layup to put the Emeralds in front 43-42. Moments later, off a Broncos turnover Mack Pugh drove the length of the court for a layup to extend the lead to 45-42.

Derouin hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 45. The Emeralds responded with a layup by Bonneau to put them back in front 47-45.

Knauf took the ball to the basket for the layup to tie the game at 47. Then Derouin got a layup off an Emeralds’ turnover to give the Broncos a 49-47 lead.

Bonneau tied the game for the Emeralds on a layup, then Bellville gave them the lead on a nice drive to the basket. Derouin knocked down a pair of free throws for the Broncos to tie the game at 51.

Manistique took the ball to the basket, but Bonneau missed the shot. Johnson pulled down the rebound and got the ball to Derouin who hit the short jumper with seconds left to give the Broncos the win.
