Bay hoops sweeps Delta

ESCANABA –Another weekend doubleheader, another sweep for bay College basketball.

The Norse earned a pair of victories over Delta College on Saturday. Here’s what went down.

Women’s game

Bay 81, Delta 60

While the Norse (18-9, 11-2) ran away with a big win over Delta during the first meeting Saturday’s showdown started off differently. The Pioneers (9-16, 6-7) found a way to keep stride with Bay in the second quarter.

The Norse led 41-34 at the break, but began to pull away in the second half, shooting 16-of-31 from the floor in the final 20 minutes after going 14-of-54 in the first half.

Freshman Anna Axtell continued to build upon her impressive season, netting a game-best 30 points and earned a double-double with 11 rebounds while adding six steals. Freshman Lauren Zawada added 16 points, six boards and five steals. McKenzie Hoffmeyer and Anisa Longs earned 10 points each off the bench.

Men’s game

Bay 97, Delta 75

While the women struggled shooting in the first half, the Norse men (22-5, 11-2) went 17-of-34 in the first half and 18-of-29 in the second to cruise past the Pioneers (10-16, 5-8).

Ryan Sweeney and Nic Williams led the Norse with 18 points each. Joe Ofori earned a double-double with a 14 point, 11 rebound effort. Parker Fahning earned 15 points and KaiRee Gadson earned 13 points.

Up next

The Norse host their final series of home games starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Their opponent is none other than Mid-Michigan Community College.
