Esky girls fall to No. 4 Calumet

CALUMET –An ice cold second quarter proved costly in Escanaba girls’ basketball’s 50-40 road loss to No. 4 Calumet on Friday.

The Eskymos (7-6) faced a manageable 13-11 deficit entering the second quarter. Junior Landry Bray scored Esky’s lone basket in the second stanza as Calumet (8-3) carried a 28-13 lead at halftime.

The Eskymos outscored the Copper Kings 27-22 in the second half.

Senior Katey Lamb led Esky with 14 points to go with six steals, five rebounds and three assists. Senior Grayson LaMarche totaled eight points, five rebounds, two steals and a block. Senior McKenzie Engebretson added seven points off the bench.

Calumet’s Jackie Kiilunen led all players with 21 points

Esky stays on the road to face Houghton at 7 p.m. Thursday.
