Basketball roundup: No. 2 Gladstone gals top Marquette, Esky boys fall to No. 3 Westwood
ESCANABA –Despite the weather outside being frightful at times, Tuesday saw Escanaba boys and Gladstone girls basketball hit the road.
Here’s what went down on Tuesday night.
Girls’ basketball
No. 2 Gladstone 54, Marquette 44
Last year’s matchup between the Braves and Sentinels in Marquette went down to the final seconds. This time around the Braves walked away with a 10-point win.
Junior Lillie Johnson led all scorers with 25 points. Junior Addy Blowers had the hot hand for the Braves, totaling 18 points with a quartet of 3-point baskets. Senior Mayce Hanson added five points while sophomore Adele Ostlund and Freshman Tiahna Reynold each added three points.
The 10-0 Braves finish their four-game road trip at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Menominee.
Boys’ basketball
No. 3 Ishpeming Westwood 69, Escanaba 29
A 22-point performance from Patriots junior Ethan Marta proved to be too much as the Eskymos suffered their fifth-straight loss.
Esky (6-8) fell behind 19-11 after the first quarter and trailed 34-21 at intermission.
Senior Javon Stevenson led Esky with 12 points. Junior Taylor Asgaard added five points.
Ishpeming Westwood’s Reid Frustaglio added 16 points.
The Eskymos return to action to host No. 1 Marquette at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
