Basketball roundup: Esky boys fall to No. 1 Forest Park, BR-H girls top Gwinn
ESCANABA — Basketball season is in full force in the U.P.
Here’s what happened on Thursday night.
Boys’ basketball
No. 1 Forest Park 53, Escanaba 40
The Eskymos completed their fourth back-to-back series of the season and fell short to the No. 1 D-4 team in the U.P. and the No. 4 D-4 in the state of Michigan.
Senior Javon Stevenson and sophomore Hayven Sandoval-Nolde each had 10 points. Junior Owen Fields earned nine points off a trio of 3-pointers. Sophomore Vic Giuliani had a game-best 18 points. Senior Kevin Giuliani had 17 points. The Giuliani brothers tallied 20 points in the third quarter. The Trojan outscored the Eskymos 21-12 in the third frame after carrying a 21-15 lead entering halftime.
The Eskymos (6-7) trips to face Ishpeming Westwood at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Trojans (8-1) host Bark River-Harris at 7 p.m. Monday.
Girls’ basketball
Bark River-Harris 45, Gwinn 41
A 28-13 lead was enough for the Broncos to earn a win over the Modeltowners.
BR-H sophomore Emma Zawada led the Broncos with 11 points. Senior Marissa Ives added 10 points. Juniors Melinah Cortez and Julia Nault had eight points each.
The Broncos (2-8) host Escanaba at 7 p.m. Friday. The Modeltowners (1-7) host No. 1 Negaunee on Tuesday.
