Prep sports roundup: Wolves, Soaring Eagles battle in weekend action
ESCANABA –Who says weekends are solely for sleep and homework. Hannahville soccer and Carney-Nadeau vollyeball both had weekend action. Here’s what went down.
Soaring Eagles split
Hannahville soccer played host to a weekend doubleheader against Ojibwe Charter. The Soaring Eagles fell to the Eagles, who netted the game-winning goal with 27 second left, 3-2 on Friday night. Dashawn Metzger netted both goals for Hannahville.
The Soaring Eagles got redemption on Saturday morning with a 2-1 win over the Eagles. Metzger and Jesse Wabanimkee had a goal each. Joe Beaver Jr. earned the win in net.
Wolves bounced in quarterfinals
Carney-Nadea volleyball competed in the Forest Park Tournament on Saturday. The Wolves split with Stephenson (25-20, 21-25), beat North Dickinson (25-23, 26-24) and Ironwood (25-20, 25-9) in pool play. The Wolves were eliminated in the quarterfinal round by Niagara (Wis.) 22-25, 25-15, 25-4.
Meadow Walcher totaled 44 assists, 17 digs and four aces on the day. Mariska Laurila finished the day with 24 kills, 16 digs, four blocks and three aces. Ashlie Topper added 22 digs, 10 aces and eight kills. Bristal cCstle earned 30 digs, three kills and three helpers. elodie lenca had 16 kills, 16 digs and a trio of aces. Gracie Dupont totaled 27 digs, three aces and three assists. Paige Jardeen had nine aces and Veronica Lawrence-Smits totaled 11 digs.
