This letter is in response to Robin Custance’s “Giveaway Programs” letter of 03/12/2025.

Thank you for the reminder to write to my elected representatives. I will certainly do so, in support of the Rx Kids program (which is not yet available in Delta County), free school lunches, free after school programs (with snack, as you helpfully pointed out), and backpacks full of food for the weekend.

Research consistently shows that free school meal programs positively affect student diet quality, school attendance, in-class participation, and overall academic performance.

As a member of both the Masonville Township Board and the Rapid River School Board, I whole-heartedly support these programs for the long-term positive outcomes they bring to our students and families here in my community and across the whole U.P.

Supporting mothers and children is not a “giveaway”, it is an investment in the future of our communities and our country.
