Poorly planned decision
EDITOR:
Congress has authorized and funded a wide range of grants and loans through the federal government to state and local governments. While the US Constitution grants Congress control over spending, the Trump administration has disregarded the law. Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 states, On Tuesday, the Trump administration froze all federal grants and loans. Consequently, programs authorized by Democrats and Republicans in Congress, such as the school lunch program, nutrition (meals on wheels) programs for the elderly, Social Security Disability Insurance, certain medical assistance programs, 4-H, and many others, will be affected in Delta County. Programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are exempt from the pause, but the poorly executed implementation has resulted in some programs that are supposed to be exempted being locked out of their funds. It is disheartening to witness billionaire individuals residing in the Capital and dining in luxury at Mar-a-Lago while good Americans will suffer due to the whims of one of these wealthy individuals. Congress must take immediate action to stop this poorly planned decision. Please contact Congressman Jack Bergman s local office at (906) 273-2227 and urge him to intervene and reverse this action.
