Quick to listen, slow to anger

EDITOR:

As I sit here during my morning devotion time, I anticipate the Thanksgiving holiday this week. It is truly a time for giving thanks for all we have…and how blessed we are. My prayer is for peace amidst all the divisiveness that seems to prevail. I will be 80 this coming year…and I’ve never experienced such division in our country…ever! Oh…we’ve had our moments, but never to this level. It’s hard to read the news. I usually read it and research it and then come to my own conclusions, because in most cases…it’s written not to inform but to express one side or the other! The past several years has caused division in so many areas…our churches…homes…families…neighborhoods…communities. The entire country is not only divided, but seems to express it in very angry, hostile ways. One area I’m concerned about is on the roads…angry people. So what do I do? I pray as I always have. I pray for peace…for understanding, compassion, kindness, to overtake the anger. Families will gather together this week to observe the holiday. I pray for hearts to soften and love to be abundant. Being a Christian, I am reminded of so many Bible verses regarding giving thanks. I’ll quote one to keep in mind. Psalms 9:1 “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart. I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” And it would do well to also consider …James 1:19-20 “…take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires”.
