Margaret ‘Esther’ Kobasic

BARK RIVER — Margaret “Esther” Kobasic, 81, of Bark River, passed away Good Friday, April 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Bark River. She was born November 17, 1943 in Crystal Falls, Mich. and was the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Johnson) Carlson. Esther grew up in Foster City, was a member of the Mission Covenant Church and graduated from Foster City High School with the class of 1962. On October 10, 1964 the former Margaret Esther Carlson married David Kobasic at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escanaba. She and her husband David owned and operated Kobasic Grocery Store in Escanaba for many years. She enjoyed all the customers she would meet. Esther enjoyed gardening, sewing, boating and loved to decorate her home. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Esther is survived by husband David Kobasic; children, Daniel (Stephanie) Kobasic, Bark River, Mich.: Theresa (Dan) Doyen, Escanaba, and Nicole (Chris) Elie, Escanaba, Mich.; brother, Steve Carlson of Foster City, Mich. and sister Marilyn Carlson, Escanaba; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant twins, Eric and Kelly Kobasic and brothers John and Billie Carlson.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, April 25, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. A meal, refreshments and a time of storytelling celebrating Esthers life will be served from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ludington Room located in the Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating the life of Margaret Esther Kobasic will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Burial will take place in the Foster City Cemetery.
