BARK RIVER — Fred J. Gagne, 86, of Bark River (Schaffer), passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at his home of natural causes.

He was born on September 14, 1938 in Spalding, Mich., son of Mose and Alma (Murray) Gagne. Fred was raised in Spalding and graduated from North Central High School in 1957.

On September 17, 1960, Fred married the former Carole Dubrock at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding.

For 12 years, Fred worked for American Motors in Milwaukee before relocating to Schaffer. He then for many years was a logger and farmer until his retirement in 2001.

Fred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and spending time at his hunting camp with family and friends. He enjoyed making maple syrup, gardening, and putting together puzzles.

Ssurvivors include his wife, Carole of Bark River; children, Veronica (Scott) Wallace, Michelle (Kevin) Miron, Todd Gagne, and Kim (Todd) Zawacki; grandchildren, Jennifer Verbrigghe, Lori Zelm, Logan Wallace, Mason Wallace, Amanda Carlson, Aaron Zawacki, Michael Gagne, Samantha Webber, and Shawn Gagne; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Kenneth (Lorena) Gagne, Joyce (David) Vandermissen, and Gary (Julie) Gagne.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by grandson, John Miron and siblings, Lorena (Edward) Pragacz, Robert (Gail) Gagne, Dorothy (Richard) Hughson, Alfred (Adriann) Gagne, Albert (Evenlyn) Gagne, Mary Ann (Neil) Forcey, and Elizabeth (William) Arvan.

In keeping with Fred’s wishes, there will be no services.
