Catherine Helen (Balthazore) Burnett

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Helen (Balthazore) Burnett, who departed this life on April 9, 2025, in Troy, Michigan, at the age of 59 with her loving husband and family by her bedside. Catherine was born on November 23, 1965, in Escanaba, Michigan. She graduated from Escanaba High School as part of the Class of 1983 and went on to build a meaningful and dedicated career. She began her professional journey with Delta County Airlines in Escanaba and later advanced to Delta Air Lines at Metro Detroit Airport. Her commitment to service extended beyond aviation — she also contributed her time and talents to the American Red Cross and was actively involved with the American Legion Post 172 in Rochester, Michigan. Later Catherine met her soulmate Daniel James Burnett. After sixteen years of building a life together they got married on June 15, 2015 in Rochester Michigan celebrating with friends and family. Catherine’s life was marked by her deep love for family and her boundless generosity toward others. She shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Daniel James Burnett. Together they raised three children: Amanda Rose Mattson (Gary), Tia Danielle Fraser (James), and Daniel James Burnett II (Karen). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Paighton Catherine, Willow Mae, Ridley Grace, James, and Laila. She is also remembered by her brothers, Jerry Drossard (Cherie) and Steven Drossart. Sister, Jackie Gerdeen. Nephews, Jason and Justin (Laurie). Nieces, Christina (Joey) and Emily (Andrew). Great-nephews, Kamryn, Ayden, Jayden, and Keegan. Great-nieces, Joslyn, Jaycie, Destiny, Adalynne, Avianna, Lilly, and Angel. Catherine held a special place in the hearts of her extended family as well, including her mother-in-law Carol Burnett and brothers-in-law Bobby and Mike (Bridgette).

Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved parents John (Jack) and Roseanne Balthazore.. Nephew, DJ. Nieces, Shawna Lyn and Taytem and life long dear friend Sally. A woman of vibrant spirit and open heart, Catherine found joy in music — often dancing in the living room with her children — and loved jet skiing across Torch Lake. She had a gift for bringing people together through entertaining friends and family or simply striking up heartfelt conversations with anyone she met. Her compassion knew no bounds; she found purpose in helping others just to see them smile. A viewing for immediate family will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Wasik Funeral Home located at 49150 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Township, Michigan 48315. A viewing for friends and family will follow from 2 to 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral service for Catherine will be said at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Catherine’s warmth touched many lives. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
