Lawrence ‘Larry’ Lundin
RAPID RIVER — Lawrence “Larry” Lundin, 89, of Rapid River passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.
He was born on September 14, 1935, in Gladstone, Mich., to Glen and Mildred (Tryan) Lundin. Larry was raised in Rapid River and graduated in 1953. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served proudly for two years within the guided missile division. Larry married the former Christine Lundberg on February 8, 1975, and they raised their son, Eric, in Rapid River. Recently, they happily celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with beloved family and friends.
Larry learned the construction trade from Ole Larson for six years. He then went on his own, forming Lundin Construction, Inc., where he built custom homes throughout the area for over 40 years. Larry took great pride in his work and earned an excellent reputation as a builder throughout his career.
He loved traveling with his wife and family extensively throughout the United States and the Caribbean. Larry was a passionate hunter and enjoyed deer season with his son, Eric, annually. Also a big game hunter throughout his life, he obtained his dream and achieved the coveted accomplishment of the Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep in 2001. In his younger years, Larry was an avid fastpitch softball player and, later in life, coached little league baseball for many years. Hewas also a dedicated Detroit Tigers fan, following the team throughout his life. Larry was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Gladstone Swedish Club, and a founding and former member of the Whitefish Hunting Club. He was also previously active with the Rapid River Lions Club, the Gladstone Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners. Larry was happiest spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Christine, son, Eric (Paula), and his two granddaughters, Megan and Abby. He is also survived by his brothers, Herb Lundin and Bill Lundin. In addition, Larry is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His sister, Joyce Mead, and sisters-in-law, Janet and Mary Lou, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River with Pastor Tommy Wimsae officiating. A luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall. Larry will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
