RAPID RIVER — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Janet Lundin, who passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 90. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Janet was the richest lady — rich with the love of her cherished family and friends. She loved without judgment and lived her life in the image of Jesus, treating everyone she met with kindness and compassion. She devoted her life to family, faith, and love, sharing a wonderful life with her husband, Herb Lundin.

She was a 1952 graduate of Gladstone High School and took great pride in her career. From 1972 to 1979, Janet worked as a library aide for Rapid River Public Schools, where she nurtured young minds and instilled in students a lifelong love of reading. She then joined Bay de Noc Community College, where she excelled and was eventually promoted to Learning Resources Center (LRC) Manager — a role she took great pride in. Her promotion was a significant achievement, reflecting her dedication and passion for education. Janet believed deeply in the power of books to change lives, often speaking about how the library was a safe haven for so many students. She tirelessly worked to provide books that would inspire and engage young readers, even purchasing them with her own money to ensure every child had the opportunity to experience the joy of reading. Nothing brought her more happiness than putting a book into a child’s hands.

Her family and friends adored this precious woman. She was always there to listen and guide them, leading by example with love, laughter, and an ability to find humor in any situation. She was always up for a game of cards, marbles, or especially Scrabble, where her sharp mind and playful spirit shined. A gifted writer, Janet had a talent for storytelling, filling her stories with humor and her spunky wit, leaving those around her smiling and inspired.

She is survived by her husband, Herb, and her children, Connie Smith, Glen (Diane) Lundin, and Linda (Jack) Allen. Janet was also a devoted sister to Arlene Bloomquist, Dan Sinclair, William Sinclair, and Mary Ann Vito. She will be deeply missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Alvina Sinclair; her brothers, Neil, Albert, Patrick, and Joel Sinclair; her sister, Margo Viviano; brothers-in-law, Melvin Bloomquist and Mike Vito; and sister-in-law, Eunice Sinclair.

Janet’s legacy is one of love, faith, and kindness. She touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, unwavering generosity, and infectious laughter. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew her.

Family will receive friends on Friday March 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours on Friday, at 4 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi officiating. Janet will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery in the spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.
