Donald Matthew Spodeck

ESCANABA — Donald Matthew Spodeck, 89 passed away March 15, 2025. He was born on June 16, 1935 on the second floor of a house on Detroit’s east side. doctor got there just as Don came into the world. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hogan and his four children Paul/Molly Spodeck, Jean Spodeck, Dennis/Mindy Spodeck, Kurt Spodeck, grandson Nicholas/Alexis Spodeck and great grandson Liam Spodeck. He was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Jane (Banka) Spodeck, his parents Matthew Oscar Spodeck, Mary Marie (Iski) Spodeck and his sister Eileen Marie (Spodeck) Sheppard. In 1953 Don was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company. He retired in 1989 after 37 years of service. Over the years Don has given time to the Boy Scouts, UP Trans Comm Federal Credit Union, St Anthony Church Parish Council, US Department of Agriculture, Delta County Sheriff Advisory Committee, Rapid River School Board, Rapid River School Improvement team, Ensign Township Board of Review, Delta County Construction and Zoning Board of Appeals, Delta County Planning Commission, Member of Delta County Historical Society, Delta County Brownsfield Authority, and City of Gladstone Board of Review.

Visitation will be held at the Garden of Rest Memorial Park Mausoleum in Wells on Friday, March 21, 11 to 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells at 12 p.m. with Father Rick Courier officiating. Donald will be entombed at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
