Roni Lynn Mayville
ESCANABA — Roni Lynn Mayville, 55, of Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, December 15th at home surrounded by her family. Roni bravely battled a long illness, through which she never lost her sense of humor or her compassion for others.
Roni was born in Escanaba on October 21, 1969, daughter of Ronald and Susan (Eagle) Mayville. Roni graduated from Escanaba High School 1987. She attended Bay De Noc Community College and graduated from Northland College with a BS in education. Her first teaching position was with the Bessemer Area School District. In 2015 she accepted a middle school teaching position in Gladstone Area Schools where she brought her creativity to life with her young science students and had a special way of connecting with all of them. She took charge during incentive days to provide a fun space for students, guiding them through their own creative skills with crafts and projects. Her colleagues at the junior high often appreciated a solid prank from Roni, always keeping the atmosphere entertaining.
When school’s out for summer, Roni enjoyed gardening, going on walks with her dog Dottie, spending a day reading on the beach, painting rocks in meticulous detail, fully redecorating a room in her house, or thrifting for a perfect find to bring back to her Lady Cave.
Roni was a talented artist who enjoyed crafting and making gifts. She designed and created wedding bouquets and floral arrangements for countless friends and family. Those who knew her will miss her generosity, her quick wit, and of course her legendary English toffee. She was simply the best, better than all the rest.
Roni was a master of movie quotes, regularly incorporating lines from “Top Gun” and “Forrest Gump” into everyday conversation or using them to make some of the easiest and even more difficult decisions. She approached her days much like this line from a favorite: “I don’t know if we have a destiny, or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I think maybe it’s both.” But also, that’s what she said.
Roni is survived by her children, Daniel Trekas and Sara Trekas (Ken Smith); parents, Ronald and Susan (Eagle) Mayville; sisters, Carol (Joe) Dollhopf and Debby Mayville; brothers, John (Jenny) Mayville and Andy Mayville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Beatrice (Degrand) Mayville and Walter and Lilian (Carmody) Eagle.
A celebration of Roni’s life will be on Sunday, February 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the back room at Mo’s Pub. Because of her love for trivia and NASCAR, the race will be on and trivia will be played.
