Lucille Adele Petersen

ESCANABA — Lucille Adele Petersen, 88, of Escanaba passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. She was born November 22, 1936 in Wells, and was the daughter of Joseph and Ruby (Sudac) Stoykovich. Lucille grew up in Wells and graduated from Holy Name High School. The former Lucille Stoykovich married Francis Gary Petersen on September 28, 1957 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wells and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2012. Lucille and Gary raised eight children and owned and operated Petersen’s Superette in Flat Rock for 29 years, retiring in 1998. Lucille was a devoted Catholic, a member of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Lucille is survived by her eight children, Mary (Larry) Johnson of Escanaba, Sandy (Steve) Sturdy of Escanaba, Kathleen (Joe) Rueter of Rydal, Penn., Marlene (Dan) McNamee of Escanaba, Regina Furmanski of Escanaba, Charlotte (Tom) Kindler of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Joseph (Kay) Petersen of Milwaukee and Peter (Penny) Petersen of Versailles, Ky.; 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by sisters, Katie, Mary, Millie, Veronica, and Ruby; brothers, George, Frank, Ivan, John, Mike, Joseph, Steve, and Paul.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 14 at The Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 15 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Timothy Ferguson officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral service in the church fellowship Hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
