Gerald Wallace Lancour

RACINE, Wis. — Gerald Wallace Lancour, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 9, 2025, in Racine, Wis. He was born on February 21, 1938, in Gladstone, to Edward and Eva (Morin) Lancour of Osier, Mich.

Jerry was the beloved husband of 66 years to Vernice (Armstrong) Lancour who recently passed in November 2023. He is survived by his eldest son, Carey (Susan) Lancour of Racine, Wis. and his daughter, Cherie Lancour of Racine, Wis. He is also survived by his best friend and sister, Sharon Bates of St. Johns, MI. Along with his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his youngest son, Joseph Lancour, and his dear family members: brothers Roger and Maurice, and sisters Helen, Evelyn, Joyce, and Nell Rae.

Jerry’s life was one filled with love, creativity, dedication, and he was known by his family and friends for his quick wit. His bond with his wife, Vernie, was truly remarkable. They shared countless cherished memories and adventures that will live on forever.

In his youth, Jerry excelled as an athlete, shining brightly in track and field sports, as well as on the basketball court. It was undeniable that his heart belonged to the Green Bay Packers, and he was a passionate fan following the team and games throughout his life.

His career at Harnischfeger Industries spanned 27 years, where he dedicated himself tirelessly to his work. Later, alongside his talented wife, Vernie, they owned and operated the Historic House of Ludington in Escanaba, for 14 years, renovating and restoring the hotel to its former glory, leaving behind unmatched memories of the hotel’s renewed life throughout the town.

A man of great imagination and talent, Jerry published his first book several years ago and recently completed the sequel. Both stories are filled with memorable events from his own life. He also had an insatiable love for collecting “treasures”, always searching for that perfect find to add to his collections.

Jerry’s faith served as his strength and solace during every chapter of his life’s journey. He was a devout member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River and found comfort in several other churches in the communities he lived, lastly being actively involved with the 2nd Presbyterian Church in Racine, Wis. until his death.

In honoring Gerald’s final wishes, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life and the love he shared with all who knew him.
