George H. Martinson

ESCANABA — George H. Martinson, 78, of Escanaba passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. He was born January 7, 1947 in Escanaba and was the son of Hilding and Elvera (Wicklund) Martinson. George graduated from Escanaba High School in 1965 and then moved to Milwaukee, Wis. and was employed with Harnischfeger Corporation until he was drafted into the Vietnam War. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years, serving 13 months until he was honorably discharged.

George married the former Linda Erickson on April 20, 1969 in Escanaba. He was employed at Mead Paper Company in Escanaba as a supervisor until his retirement. George was a dedicated coach with the Junior Hockey Association and the Escanaba Little League for many years. He also enjoyed playing fast pitch baseball and playing goalie in hockey. George enjoyed going to high school sporting events and watching the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.

George is survived by wife, Linda; sons, Greg Martinson of Escanaba, Chris (Denna) Martinson of Sarasota, Fla., Dan (Laurie) Martinson of Appleton, Wis. and Andrew Martinson from Parrish, Fla.; four grandchildren; brothers James (Kathy) Martinson of Escanaba and sister Mary (Oral) Thompson of Escanaba.

George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Nancy Bolm, Bill Martinson, John Martinson, David Martinson and nephew Steven Martinson.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military services will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Delta County Veteran’s Council, being assisted by the United States Marine Corps. Funeral services celebrating the life of George H. Martinson will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Cowen officiating.
