Clay Corrigan
GLADSTONE — Clay Corrigan, 87, of Gladstone, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, after a valiant battle with dementia.
Clay was born December 24, 1937 in Iron Mountain, to Clayton G. and Magdalena (Raspolic) Corrigan.
Upon graduating from Kingsford High School, Clay went on to serve in the USMC. After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Rosemary Flaminio, on February 7, 1959. They raised four children in their wonderful 56 years together. They had a fulfilling life that was spent sharing golf trips, cycle rides, church going, volunteering, attending their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoying the blessing of many great friends until Rosemary’s passing. A good portion of those years were spent residing in Bark River.
In 2015, Clay married Dannielle Herbert of Gladstone until her untimely death. He then met and married Evelyn Cass, his current wife. They enjoyed many bike rides, music festivals and spending time with her family.
He began his career at Niagara Paper mill as a pipefitter. He later joined Mead Paper of Escanaba and retired as a machinist.
Clay was an accomplished “jack of all trades”. He could fix or build anything. He was a gifted athlete with a love for all sports and games. Traits he would pass on to his three talented sons.
There wasn’t a hobby he didn’t explore. An avid golfer, bowler, fisherman, dart ball, horseshoes, bocce ball, cards, cribbage, and woodworking just to name a few. He thoroughly enjoyed all of his family, friends and teammates that joined him.
His fascination with wheels led to a vast collection of cars, motorcycles, golf carts and bicycles. Clay had places to go and wanted choices on how to get there.
The man never stopped tinkering, exploring gadgets or problem solving. Maybe you received an unsolicited golf lesson, or your driveway was anonymously cleared of snow, you were given rides to appointments or help and advice on how to do “stuff” from Clay. Our apologies to those who lost money after one of his many rummage sale visits. He loved a good haggle and he never left empty handed.
He was the fun Grandpa. There are countless memories of sharing every hobby, unceasing entertainment, snacking and general mischief with his grandchildren.
He was passionate about his Catholic faith which translated into his innate joy of helping others.
If you met Clay, you liked him. If you knew Clay, you loved him!
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; sons, Mark (Jean), David (Sherry), and Gary (Traci); daughter, Colleen (Bill) Jensen; grandchildren, Adam Corrigan, Dayna (John) Ruggles, Whitney (Len Vader) Corrigan, Andrew (Lacy) Jensen, Matthew (Erynn) Jensen, Avry, Elliott, Grady and Kye Corrigan; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Kathleen Corrigan and Bruce White; several nieces and nephews; and In-laws, Jim and Barbara Flaminio; along with bonus family, Dan (Joanne) Cass, Gary (Julie) Cass, Tina Degrand (Pat Watt), Chuck (Teresa) Cass, and Tonya (Dan) Voetberg.
