Cheri Jean Severinsen

ESCANABA — Cheri Jean Severinsen, 81, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 7, 2025 following her own courageous battle with cancer and dementia.
She was born on August 11, 1943 in Chicago, Ill., daughter to Homer and Berneice (Mott) Schultz.
Cheri met the love of her life, Walter Severinsen, while attending Holy Name High School in Escanaba, Michigan. On August 27, 1960, the former Cheri J. Schultz married Walter R. Severinsen in Bark River, Michigan.
Over 64 and a half years, Wally and Cheri shared many adventures together. They traveled to Rome, Venezuela and Hawaii, as well as numerous trips where they enjoyed their favorite pastime of golf. Cheri was a talented and skilled golfer, winning many tournaments.
Serving others was a main focus for Cheri. She was one of the founding members of the Delta County Cancer Alliance and served as the president for nearly 28 years, retiring in 2021. She was the organization’s longest serving president. Her tireless and selfless service to the Alliance made an immeasurable impact on the community. Cheri provided leadership and commitment to the Alliance in a variety of ways. She provided education, guidance and compassion to help patients and their families as they battled cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wally Severinsen of Escanaba; two children, Tammy (Randy) Wiles of Escanaba and Richard (Mary) Severinsen of Mequon; grandchildren, Brandon (Christi), Brittany (Jed Avery), Cody Severinsen; Justine, Jacob Wiles; great-grandchildren, Mason, Amelia, Monroe, and Fletcher; and siblings, Sandy, Diane, Homer, Karen, and Sheila.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Collette and Joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church on Tuesday, February 11 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance, 3430 Ludington St., Escanaba, MI 49829, which was so very dear to Cheri. Envelopes will be available at the church.
