Bethyl L. ‘Beth’ Wittbrodt

LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Bethyl L. “Beth” Wittbrodt, 78, of La Crescent, Minnesota, died Tuesday, February 4, 2025 in her home. Beth was born November 23, 1946 in Escanaba, the daughter of Victor and Lorraine Mankiewicz. Beth was raised in Rock. She was the 1964 valedictorian of Rock High School. Beth continued her education at Northern Michigan University where in 1968, she received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. Beth was one of seven who received the highest honor in the School of Education. In the 1970’s, Beth earned her Certificate in Special Education. Starting in 1968, Beth worked as an Elementary and Special Education Teacher in numerous school districts in several states. She retired from teaching in the Eveleth School District in 2002. During her retirement, Beth enjoyed working as a substitute teacher at Crucifixion Elementary School.

Beth met her future husband, Robert Wittbrodt on February 15, 1967 on campus at Northern Michigan University. They were married on June 21st, 1969, They spent 30 years on the Iron Range, Minnesota, in a house they built. They retired to La Crescent in 2002.

Beth enjoyed travel, sewing, baking, crafts, concerts, museums, long walks, and good food. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to her 4 grandchildren. Beth would create fun games and activities for each of them. She was very involved in their activities and successes.

In addition to her husband Robert, survivors include: brother, James Mankiewicz; sister Laurie Haight, son, Eric Robert Wittbrodt; daughter in law, Amee Wittbrodt; 4 grandchildren, Isabelle Wittbrodt, Ian Wittbrodt, Idan Wittbrodt, Ilyas Wittbrodt; 12 nieces and nephews.

Beth’s family will receive friends for the visitation on Saturday, February 22 from 10 to 11 at Crucifixion Church in La Crescent, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial for Bethyl L. Wittbrodt will follow at 11:00 at Crucifixion Church with Father John L. Evans II presiding. Lunch will follow at the Crucifixion School Gymnasium. Burial will be in Perronville, Michigan Cemetery. Schumacher and Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, www.schumacher-kish.com, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers/offerings, the family requests donations be sent to the Crucifixion School.
