Barbara Roy (Desilets)

Barbara was born in Escanaba, Michigan, on December 7, 1935, the daughter of Ernest and Marion (Wurth) Desilets. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1954 and then attended Badger Business College in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Mott Community College earning an associates degree in business.

During her life she enjoyed painting, listening to music, attending concerts, traveling, car races, snow skiing, dancing and caring for animals. Barbara loved being outdoors by the water, boating and going to flea markets. In later years she loved to be at the park watching the ducks. The 4th of July was her favorite holiday because of all the festivities and family fun. Most of all she loved being with family and friends, and helping any who were experiencing a crisis or hard times even as she experienced her own hardships.

For several years she worked at the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department. She began as a clerk and also handled gun registrations. Her favorite position there was in the booking department where she heard many interesting stories. However, she always felt sorry for those who found themselves in such a troubling situation. Her work there led to her love of reading mysteries and watching crime movies and TV series.

Barbara was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Flint. She was a kind, joyful, loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving is her devoted son and caregiver, Scott S. Roy, and daughter-in-law Diane Roy (Danny). grandchildren, Robert W. Roy, Daniel R. Roy, Gregory E. Roy, Nicholas P. Roy, and Melissa B. Roy; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rena Miller, Lily Rose Roy, and Benjamin P. Roy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her sons, Danny R. Roy and Kevin M. Roy and her parents.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on February 24 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Flint, MI, with Fr.. Matthew Bonk officiating. Burial was in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
