Alice ‘Joanne’ Nagy

POWERS — Alice “Joanne” Nagy, 77, of Powers, passed away February 14, 2025 at OSF Medical Center with her husband by her side.

Joanne was born October 30, 1948 at the Cradle Home in Gladstone, daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Neadow) Pilon.

On June 3, 1971 Joanne married her blind date Paul Nagy of Carney. They were married in Joanne’s home town in Nahma.

Joanne graduated from Nahma High School. She then went to beautician school. She took over her mother-in-law’s salon, Julia’s Klip & Kurls for years as she raised their three children.

Then she worked in the laundry department at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility until she retired in 2010.

She was a devoted wife, mother, nana and friend. You would never leave her house hungry; she could whip up a gourmet meal in minutes. Her banana bread was one of a kind and we will continue to try to repeat the recipe.

Her biggest passion was her grandchildren, she was their biggest cheerleader. They will forever remember her warmth and kindness. She was a cherished Nana who leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Paul Nagy; daughter, Amanda (Chris) Poupore of Carney; sons, Scott (Monica) Nagy of Sault Saint Marie and Adam Nagy of Gladstone; grandchildren Dan (Olivia) Stenback, Noah (Lexi) Poupore, Victoria (Anders) Nagy, Zoey (Willy) Poupore, Alexis Nagy and Jacob Nagy; great-grandchildren, Laila, Lola and Nora Stenback; sisters, Carolyn Groleau and Kathy (Dennis) Freeland; sister-in-law Karen Pilon; brother James Pilon; and many nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Stella Pilon; grandson Trent Poupore; brother William Pilon; brothers-in-law Joseph Szapa and Ronald Groleau; sister-in-law Arlene Szapa; nephew Robbie Szapa; she also joins her father-in-law Paul Nagy Sr. and mother-in-law Julia Nagy.
