William ‘Bill’ ‘Worm’ C. Brower
GLADSTONE — William “Bill” “Worm” C. Brower, 87, Gladstone, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital with his loving family by side. He was born on October 31, 1937 in Escanaba, son of the late Clifford and Delia (Thurston) Brower.
Bill graduated from Escanaba High School in 1955 and then joined the U.S. Air Force. After returning home, he began his career as a millwright and a union president at Mead Paper.
Bill was well liked and a friend and helper to everyone. He loved watching NASCAR and dirt track racing. He also enjoyed working in the pits and working on cars with his son. He also enjoyed playing slow pitch softball on the Mead American team, where he made many longtime friends. Bill also loved the Detroit Lions, the Michigan Wolverines and was an avid bowler until he was 84 years old. Worm will always be remembered for his memories and inspirations.
Bill is survived by a daughter, Lisa (Rick) Benoit; a son, Todd (Amanda Cayer) Brower; sisters, Eunice VanElsacker and Judy (Don) Frazier; grandchildren: Ricky Jr. and Nick (Brittany) Benoit, Terry (Kennedy Englund) Brower, Jessica (Stephen) Kennedy and Jami Dupey; many great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Bonnie Brower, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Linda (Peterson) Brower, the mother of his three children: Merry (Rose) Brower, a son: Terry Brower; daughter, Kathi Brower; his grandmother who raised him following the loss of his parents, Julia Hudson (Thurston Williams) Lofquist; sisters, Phyllis (Doug) Spade, Beverly (Harry( Nielsen; brothers, Bernard Brower, Gordon (Carol) Brower and Joe “Terry” (Sue) Erickson and a brother-in-law, Phil VanElsacker.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday February 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the USW Local 21 union hall (1201 Sheridan Rd, Escanaba, MI 49829).
