Wendell ‘Buck’ N. LaPalm Sr.
ESCANABA — Wendell “Buck” N. LaPalm Sr., 73, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday morning, December 30, 2024 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 2, 1951 in Escanaba, son of Clarence and Verna (Routheaux) LaPalm. Wendell was raised by Adelore and Fern LaPalm in Hermansville, but has resided in Escanaba since 1965. In the 1970s, he worked at Teals Evergreen Tree Farm, then worked at American Timber Homes until his retirement.
On August 2, 1986, Wendell married Elsie A. Hardwick in Escanaba.
Wendell enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing board games, Special Olympics, and spending time at the casino. He enjoyed long talks with his son and daughter-in-law but would start a conversation with anyone who was willing to listen. The simple moments while looking outside the window, playing video games with his son and friends, and playing sports with neighborhood kids and his son’s friends were times he appreciated.
Before his passing, Wendell was blessed with the Sacrament of Baptism into the Catholic Church by Rev. Sebastian Chacko.
Among survivors are his wife, Elsie A. LaPalm of Escanaba; son, Wendell N. (Lindsey) LaPalm, Jr.; sister, Gloria (Blaine) Rhode of Carney; sister-in-law, Nancy LaPalm of Escanaba; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and the LaMarche and Nolde families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Fern LaPalm; stepfather, Adelore LaPalm, Jr.; brothers, Clyde LaPalm, Glenn LaPalm, and Keith LaPalm; and sisters, Betty Lou Carson and Joyce Scott.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Holy Family Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Sebastian Chacko officiating. At the conclusion of the mass, a meal will be served in the church hall.
Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
