Robert Graham Meiers, Jr.

RAPID RIVER — Robert Graham Meiers, Jr., affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024. Born and raised in Owosso, Mich., Bob was a beloved husband, father, and friend, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family and friends will forever remember him for his dry and witty sense of humor, which often required a keen ear to catch his subtle jokes.

Bob graduated from Michigan State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. He was a diehard Spartan fan. He proudly supported the MSU Marching Band for many years as he enjoyed watching his daughter perform in the MSU concert band.

A third-generation insurance agent, Bob dedicated his career to the family business. He started his career working at RF Meiers and Sons Insurance Agency in Owosso with his father and other family members. Following his father’s passing in 1972, Bob became the family patriarch, consistently prioritizing the needs of his loved ones above his own. Bob was selfless in life and felt this was his duty and expected nothing in return.

In 1976, he co-founded Meiers and Lombardini Insurance in Haslett, Mich. with his partner Robert Lombardini. There they upheld a reputation for integrity and customer-first service. Bob’s commitment to ethical business practices was a hallmark of his professional life. In 2012, he entrusted the agency to his nephew, Will Lemanski, and his wife, Lisa, and officially retired four years later.

Bob was an avid golfer, never missing an opportunity to participate in a tournament or golf scramble. His love for the sport was matched only by his appreciation for the natural beauty and community of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and his beloved standard poodles. In retirement, he found peace in his home overlooking Lake Michigan in Nahma.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Laura (Donahue) Meiers; and his cherished daughter, Abigail McCarthy, along with her husband, Sean, of Riverton, Utah. He is also survived by his sister, Martha DeBree of Jensen Beach, Florida and David Meiers of East Lansing, Michigan along with many other cherished nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Marguerite Meiers and his sister, Sue Anne Bentley.

Bob’s legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to family and community will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his life.
