John W. ‘Jack’ and Corrine G. Wigand
WETMORE — John W. “Jack” and Corrine G. Wigand, both 91, of Wetmore, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 as a result of injuries sustained in an automotive accident.
Jack was born on October 21, 1933 in Escanaba, son to William and Agnes (Seidel) Wigand. He attended Escanaba schools and then eagerly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Jack served from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1955 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Corrine was born on October 24, 1933 in Escanaba, daughter to Joseph and Anna (Derusha) Berube. She graduated from Escanaba High School and then began working at Clairmont Transfer.
When Jack returned home from the military, he married the former Corrine Berube on July 9, 1955 at St. Anthony’s Church. They raised two children and shared nearly 70 years of marriage.
Jack began working at Mead Paper Company in 1956 and retired as a supervisor in 1991. He enjoyed boating, camping, hunting, and traveling. He could often be found tinkering in the garage or spending time on his tractor maintaining his road to Dana Lake.
After raising their family, Corrine began working at Heynssens-Selin’s as their bookkeeper until her retirement in 1995. Corrine loved knitting, cooking, baking, reading, and picking blueberries. She enjoyed snowmobiling and even at the age of 87, was riding a jet ski. Age didn’t stop her from doing anything.
Jack and Corrine were lifelong members of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wells and both were part of their pasty making crew. Following their retirements, they treasured the years living year-round at their home on Dana Lake in Wetmore. Spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren were moments they cherished. They also loved their pets, especially their toy poodle, Princess.
They will be sadly missed by their two sons, Donald (Janice) Wigand of Wells and Kevin Wigand of Escanaba; daughter-in-law, Janelle Wigand of Escanaba; grandchildren, Julie Wigand, Adam Wigand, Alex (Lindsey) Wigand, Justin (Lindsey) Wigand, Jessie (Tyler) Depuydt, Kassidy Wigand, and Karly Wigand; great-grandchildren, Jack, Parker, Carson, Harper, Everett, Vera, and Archer; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Rick and Mary Larson.
