Joan M. Cummings

CORNELL — Joan M. Cummings, 84, of Cornell, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday evening, December 29, 2024 at home.

Joan was born on April 4, 1940 in Albertville, Ala., the daughter of Albes and Pearl (Johnson) Michael.

Joan was united in marriage to Frank Farmer on April 21, 1957 and together had six children. He preceded her in death in December of 2000.

Joan owned and operated the IGA in Rock, Mich. for many years. She also worked in various departments at Woolworth where she made many cherished friendships. She also worked in the bakery at Super One Foods up until her retirement.

Joan was a socialite. She loved spending time with friends and family. She also loved gardening and enjoying the birds in her yard.

Joan was united in marriage to Eugene “Lou” Cummings on May 5, 2003. He preceded her in death in March of 2011.

Joan is survived by two sons, Frank (Darlene) Farmer of Flint, Mich. and Raymond (Lynn) Farmer of Suamico, Wis.; four daughters, Yvonne (Robert) Leaf of Cornell, Kathy (Jeff) Gudwer of Gladstone, Sharon Bridges of Green Bay, Wis., Debbie (John) Pajnich of Rapid River, bonus daughter, Donna Dams, stepdaughter, Wendy (Marvin) Rivers of Ann Arbor, Mich., stepson: Barry Cummings, 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and longtime companion Ernie Agness.

Joan is preceded in death by parents, first husband, Frank Farmer, second husband, Eugene Cummings, numerous brothers and sisters and granddaughter, Kimberly Galey.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 3- from 2- until 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. A luncheon will follow at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Flushing Christian Outreach.
