Harry ‘Bud’ L. Strem

BARK RIVER — Harry “Bud” L. Strem, of Bark River, 97, passed away on January 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at Cedar Hill Assisted Living, Bark River, Mich.

Harry was born on September 14, 1927, to William and Edith (England) Strem, Sr. in Marinette, Wis. He was raised in Marinette Wis.. and graduated from Marinette High School in 1946. After high school graduation he attended The University of Wisconsin Madison. Because of a shortage of finances, he was forced to leave college and return home to Marinette for employment that he found at Scott Paper in Marinette. He worked at Scott Paper in Marinette until he married the love of his life, Nancy Busch (his Angel) on July 18,1953 at Epiphany Catholic Church in Menominee, Mich. Together the couple shared nearly 66 years of marriage and raised three children, Patti, Bill, and Marcia. Nancy’s father was manager at Michigan Bell telephone and found them both jobs in Escanaba, Mich. where they remained until 1974 when they moved to Bark River. Bud worked at Michigan Bell as a toll test man. He retired after 35 plus years in 1991.

Bud loved to dabble in the stock market, loved growing lots of tomatoes for family and friends. He had a large hobby farm with chickens, cows, and horses. Bud was an avid bowler, attending many tournaments. He had a high average and was awarded many trophies. He loved his German Shepherds, Kreig and Otto who were his constant companions. Bud had an extreme passion for planting apple trees and sharing his knowledge with neighbors as all knew where to get a good rooted apple tree through Bud’s knowledge.

Harry is survived by his children, Patti (Tim) Gould of Bark River, Bill (Bonnie) Strem of Escanaba, and Marcia (Ken) Bower of Bark River; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Bintner, Kevin Gould, Ryan Strem, Jessica (John) Gannon, Cassie (Brian) Kleiman; great-grandchildren, Isabella Kleiman, and Teagan and Jackson Gannon. Brothers Jim Strem of Marinette, Wis., John Strem of Woodale Ill.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sisters Wilda and Jean and brother Bill.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Harry “Bud” Strem will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Father Darryl Pepin officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Ludington Room located at the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette, Wis.
