Frederick Robert Engdahl, Jr

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP — Frederick Robert Engdahl, Jr, 68, of Independence Township, passed away December 27, 2024. He was born on March 27, 1956, in Escanaba, son to Frederick Sr. (Margaret) Engdahl (nee Marcoe). Loving husband of the late Gail. Dear father of Frederick III (Jordan) Engdahl and Timothy Engdahl; proud grandfather of Rilynn and Kinley; brother of Susan (the late Ed) Closs and the late Todd Engdahl.

Yesterday, My Father – Frederick Robert Engdahl Jr has passed away. My Dad was a devoted Episcopal Priest for 30 years, he was able to enjoy 15 years of retirement. His family was the most important thing to him. He told me every day I talked to him on the phone how proud he was of me and my family, and how much he loved us. My father has struggled with many things in his life, especially the last few years after my Mom passed away. However, knowing he is at rest now by her side is very bittersweet. He was the sweetest Grandpa to my daughters, every time he saw them no matter the mood he was in. He would always try and make them giggle or laugh, I hope that’s something they both will be able to remember for a long time. My Dad has a huge impact on my life in the outdoors. When we were kids, he had Timmy and I, in Boy Scouts to get us interested in all things nature had to offer. He was an Eagle Scout himself. He loved nature more than God himself. He enjoyed every aspect of the beautiful world, a wished everyone could see it the way he did. I have now lost both of my parents in the last four years. Losing both parents in my 20s is definitely something no one expects to happen. However, I feel very grateful for everything they have taught me, making me who I am today. Along with being able to take care of Timmy, giving him a life I know they would both be very happy of. Dad until we meet again one day, I will make sure to tell the kids all about you and Mom as they grow. Including how wonderful you both would be of treated them over and over again. Love you, Rest Easy now.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 11 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 817 S. Lincoln Street, Escanaba, Michigan 49829. Arrangements entrusted to Village Funeral Home of Ortonville. Memorial donations in Fred’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
