Ernest R. Broeders
BARK RIVER — Ernest R. Broeders, 94, of Bark River, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at his home.
He was born on April 26, 1930 in Foster City, Mich., son of Gerard Antonias and Gertrude (Tausher) Broeders.
Ernest enlisted into the US Army in June of 1951. While enlisted, he earned the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in May of 1953.
After his discharge, Ernest married the former Irene Kwak on August 8, 1953 in St. Michael’s Church in Perronville.
He worked for the Mead Paper Corporation as a heavy equipment operator and retired in 1988.
Ernest enjoyed woodworking, mechanics and anything with cars. He also enjoyed working in the woods cutting up logs and sawing lumber at his sawmill. After his retirement, Ernest enjoyed raising chickens and provided the eggs to his family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Henry (Cathy) Broeders, Carol (Steve Rader) Belongia, Dave (Karen) Broeders, Donna (Rayne) Motto, and Karen (Ed) Greenfield; grandchildren, Brian Broeders, Tom Broeders, Mike Belongia, Melissa Belongia, Jennifer Falk, Chris Broeders, Jesse Motto, James Greenfield and Jessica Greenfield; 12 great-grandchildren with two great-great-grandchildren on the way; brothers, John Broeders and Don Broeders; along with several loved nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his loving wife, Irene; and several brothers and sisters.
