David Edward Cass
PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. — David Edward Cass, 74, of Port Washington, Wis., passed away peacefully at his home on December 30, 2024, surrounded by the love and care of his family.
Dave was born in Escanaba, Mich., to Vern and Marie (Beaudry) Cass. After graduating from Escanaba Area High School in 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Vicki Abrahamson, on March 10, 1973. Together, they raised three beloved children: Heather, Graham, and Zachary.
In his early years, Dave was a professional musician — a passion that remained central to his life. He played drums for numerous bands for over six decades. In addition to his drumming career, he worked in manufacturing management.
Dave was known for his ability to connect with people and light up a room with his positive energy. Of all his roles in life, none was more precious to him than being “Papa” to his eight grandchildren: Gabrielle, Noah, Mathias, Jaden, Tony, Audriana, Oliver, and Emerson, as well as his great-grandchild, Xavier.
Dave loved music and was a dedicated attendee of Milwaukee’s Summerfest, which he enjoyed for 50 consecutive years. In addition to music, his favorite activities included walking on the beach, reading books, vacationing and helping others. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, attending many games at Lambeau Field and Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, Texas. In his retirement, he enjoyed wintering in Florida with his sister Sandy, where he often jammed with local bands.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Marie; his brothers, Vern Jr., Wayne, and Ronnie; his sister, Joyce; and his brother-in-law, Gary Abrahamson Jr.
He is survived by his children, Heather Harmon (Jon), Graham Cass (Kelsey), and Zachary Cass (Rachel); his sister, Sandy Cass; his former wife, Vicki Abrahamson-Cass; his brother-in-law, Jeff Abrahamson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Dave and family appreciated all of the tremendous care and support provided by oncology team at the Froedert Cancer Center led by Dr. Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at the Crawford Funeral Home at 302 S. 13th Street in Escanaba on January 10. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. with a service to follow. Light refreshments and snacks will be available during visitation hours.
Dave will be remembered for his love of music, his devotion to family, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed
