Daniel D. Dlugas

WELLS – Daniel D. Dlugas, 86, of Wells, passed away on December 30, 2024 at home while surrounded by his loving family.

Daniel was born in Escanaba on May 19, 1938, son of John Peter and Stella (Yagodzinski) Dlugas.

On April 28, 1962, he married the former Sharon Frederickson at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba.

He worked on the family farm in south Bark River then began working for Harnishfeger. After the closure, Daniel drove truck for Clairmont. His final years of working were spent in Wells Township where every baseball and hockey player knew him as “Mr. Dlugas” and “The Best Skate Sharpener.” He retired in 2000.

Daniel was a natural outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, cutting wood, and spending time out at hunting camp with his family and friends. His greatest source of joy were his grandchildren.

He was an active member in the Great Lakes Rod and Gun Club, Wells Lion Club, and was an usher at St. Anthony’s Parish.

Among survivors are his loving wife of 62 years, Sharon; children, Donna (Todd) Trudell of Cornell and David (Tammy) Dlugas of Bark River; grandchildren, Brian, Brent (Haley), Hunter, and Gunnar; great-grandchildren, Koda, Aurora, and Issac; siblings, John Dlugas, Robert Dlugas, and Lottie (Leonard) Bjornson.

Along with his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Joanie Dlugas and Linda Dlugas; brother-in-law, Paul Frederickson; niece, Chris Quaghebeur; and nephew, Mike Weber.

Visitation will take place at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S 13th St. Escanaba, MI 49829 on Friday, January 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. Parish prayers will take place at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 4 at St. Anthony’s Parish at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.
