Vern is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; children John (Tammy) LaPlant and their children Emily LaPlant and Brittany as well as Kathleen (Wayne) Kleikamp; siblings Lynn (Sue) LaPlant, Gary (Helen) LaPlant, and Susan (Ken) Gustafson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
