Duane E. Carlson

ESCANABA — Duane E. Carlson, 67, of Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the home of his mother.

He was born on July 28, 1957 in Kenosha, Wis., son of Eldon C. and Helen A. (Bader) Carlson. At the age of three, Duane’s family moved to Escanaba. They quickly became residents of Wells and Duane would later reference his childhood in Wells as “magical”. Duane graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1975.

In 1982, Duane married Carol Sue Pearson at First Presbyterian Church in Escanaba. She preceded him in death in 2020.

For 44 years, Duane was employed at the West Highland Apartments. He was the maintenance manager until his retirement in 2022. Duane loved the residents there and always genuinely cared about them.

Duane enjoyed spending time on his Boston Whaler 22′ Revenge. He loved fishing and the many boat rides to Door County which were some of his favorite memories. Duane and Carol enjoyed spending much of their time at their cabin on Lake Michigan.

He was a talented artist who was capable and creative enough to make anything. He especially enjoyed woodworking.

Among survivors are his mother, Helen Carlson of Wells; brother, Bruce (Donna) Carlson of Marquette; sister, Denise (Steve) Gardner of DePere, Wis.; and his nephews and niece who he loved dearly, Justin Carlson, Jeremy Carlson, Pearl Gaidelis, and Natalie Gardner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and father, Eldon.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 6 from 3 to 4 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 4 p.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.
