Carol J. Gregoire
ESCANABA — Carol J. Gregoire, 89, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday evening, December 6, 2024 at her home with her loving family at her side.
She was born on May 17, 1935 in Escanaba, daughter of Anton J. and Isabelle E. (Reubens) Abel. Carol graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1953. She later attended Cloverland Business College.
On April 7, 1956, Carol married Thomas J. Gregoire at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba.
Carol was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished the moments with her family.
She was a valued member of the Escanaba Elks Auxiliary and the Escanaba Country Club. Carol enjoyed her weekly activities, whether golf league and bridge on Wednesdays, Thursday bowling league, and Friday poker tournaments at the casino. She was always on the go or spending her time knitting baby sweaters and wash cloths, playing cards, or competing in a game of Yahtzee, cribbage, or working on a crossword puzzle.
Carol was extremely generous, always helping those in need. She ensured no one went hungry and provided Christmas gifts for children who would have otherwise gone without. Her giving spirit touched countless lives.
She is survived by her children, Peter (Mary Russell) Gregoire of Escanaba, Paul (Karn) Gregoire of Rhodes, Iowa, Patti (Paul) Schrader of Escanaba, Penny (Michelle Gallagher) Gregoire of St. Petersburg, Fla., Polly (Dean) Anderson of Green Bay, and Gloria (Gary) Lark of Escanaba.
Carol’s beloved grandchildren include Paul Gregoire Jr., Elise Whaley, Stephanie Gregoire, Erin Gregoire, Shelby Hardwick, Jessica Malo, Megan Furman, Laken Anderson, and Hogan Anderson; and great grandchildren, Harper, Quinn, and Walker Whaley, Pryce and Kasen Gregoire, Lena, Edie, and Mara Malo, Cameron Furman, and Hank Hardwick.
In addition to her parents and husband, Tom; she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pam Gregoire Downham; sister, Shirley Merrill; brother, Ronnie Abel; and grandparents, Henry and Leona Abel.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 14 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A gathering and celebration of Carol’s life will immediately follow at the Escanaba Elks Lodge.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Holy Cross Cemetery.
