Robert ‘Bob’ G. Polowski

He was born in Wyandotte, Mich. on March 9, 1938, the son of Charles and Barbara (Phillips) Polowski. Bob attended Trenton High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1960.

On September 20th, 1958, Bob married Diane Lokuta at St. Timothy’s Church in Trenton, Mich. Following their wedding, Bob and Diane moved to Escanaba to help Bob’s parents with their business.

Bob began his service to our community initially as a fireman and then became a police officer. Bob was one of the first officers to be sworn in to the newly established Public Safety Department. He was a proud officer for 30 years until his retirement in 1995. Bob and Diane also owned and operated Escanaba Fence Company for several years.

He enjoyed polka dancing, music, and playing his many concertinas. Bob also enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and working around the house and yard. He was an avid Detroit Tiger and Red Wings fan.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Diane, of 66 years. He is also survived by his children, Peter, Suzanne (Steve) Miller, Andrew (Sherrie) and Mary (Troy) Nelson; grandchildren, Abigail, Katie, Ike, Jake, Jolee, Addie, Caz, Andrea, Angela, Andrew, Andrew, Allyson, Tanner, and Makenna; 24 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane; a great-granddaughter and brother, Charles “Chummy” Polowski.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. Military honors will take place at 1 p.m. followed by a blessing from Rev. Robb Jurkovich. Light refreshments will be available during the visitation hours in the lounge.
