Leslie Junior (Ed) Savage
COOKS — Leslie Junior (Ed) Savage, 98, of Cooks, died with his loving family by his side on November 18, 2024. He was born on June 24,1926 at his grandpa’s house in Cooks, to his parents, Leslie and Rose (Reider) Savage.
Soon after graduating from high school, Leslie joined the Navy and served during WWII on the USS Bon Homme Richard.
A few years later, in 1949, he married the former Evelyn Tanguay, making their home in Cooks, raising three boys and a daughter. Leslie worked as a truck driver for Bacco Construction, retiring in 1991.
Leslie loved deer season, hunting and trapping, and watching westerns. It wasn’t unusual to find him working in the garden and enjoying the outdoors. He was a dog lover, always having a pet by his side.
His family brought him immense joy, from raising his own four children, to having nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Leslie is survived by his children, sons, Randall (Terry) Savage and Michael (Christine) Savage from Manistique; Patrick (Lillyan) Savage and daughter Linda (Glenn) Erickson from Rapid River. His beloved grandchildren, Craig, Wade, Tanya, Tara, Luke, Glenn, Katie, John, and Wendy; and of course, fourteen great-grandchildren. Leslie is survived by his sister, Betty Knoph of Manistique.
Leslie was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years Evelyn; his parents, Leslie and Rose; and his sisters June, Dorothy, Lucille, Marie, and Lorraine.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations made in Leslie’s memory be directed to the VFW of Manistique.
A graveside service at Cooks Cemetery will take place December 2, 2024 at 11 am. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Life at Inwood Township Hall.
