Dorothy M. Thennes

GARDEN — Dorothy M. Thennes, 95, of Garden, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Bishop Noa Home.

She was born on August 15, 1929 in her family home in Garden, Mich., daughter of Dighton B. and Rose L. (LaTulip) Tatrow.

Dorothy attended the Garden School, class of 1947, and was a life long resident of the area.

She married John “Jack” Thennes on July 10, 1948 at the St. John the Baptist Church in Garden, Mich.

She was originally a homemaker but became the secretary of the Mary Grove Retreat Center after her children were grown. She worked at Mary Grove for 37 years until her retirement.

When she was younger, Dorothy liked to sew and made tatted doilies. She also enjoyed gardening, doing ceramics and listening to music. Dorothy was an active member of St. John’s Church in Garden and was in a weekly Bible study.

Above all else she enjoyed baking and spending time with her family.

Among her survivors are her children, Sandra Doran of Escanaba, Karen (Charles) Paulson of Garden, and John (Ann) Thennes of Escanaba; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Casey of Stephenson; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; son in-law, Michael Doran; and siblings, Jean Collins and Gerald Tatrow.

A visitation will take place at St. John the Baptist Church, 6410 State St. Garden, MI 49835, on Wednesday, December 4 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12 with Fr. Brandon Yanni officiating.

Burial will take place in New Garden Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. John the Baptist Church in Garden, MI or to have masses said in her name.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Bishop Noa Home and all their staff for the continued care of Dorothy for the past four years; OSF Home Health and Hospice for their support during this difficult time; and Mary Kidd, NP and Dr. Nicole Linder for their kind words and actions in supporting Dorothy.
