Susan Harp

CONCHAS DAM, N.M. — Susan Harp of Conchas Dam, N.M. died unexpectedly on August 16, 2024. Susan was born August 24, 1950 in Escanaba, the daughter of Ralph and Frances (Hruska) Frasher. She attended St. Thomas Elementary School and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1968.

Susan earned her degrees: bachelor of science degree in elementary education, music and creative arts in 1971 and a MA degree in early childhood education in 1976 at Western Michigan University.

She spent the majority of her career teaching in Conchas Dam Elementary, a one room schoolhouse (K through 6) until its closure in 2004. She was affectionately known as “Miss Sue” to her students and community members alike. Susan retired from West Las Vegas, N.M. School District in 2009.

Susan was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 25 years. She was a weaver who gifted her baskets to her friends and family. She was a member of the local Conchas Dam Jam Band. Susan and her husband enjoyed boating and RVing and participating in events with the Conchas Lake Community. She loved singing, dancing, attending concerts and spending as much time as she could with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by Victor Harp, her husband of 23 years; daughter, Joylu (Rob) Good of Amarillo, Texas; stepsons, Corey (Caterina) Harp of Perth, Australia and Eric Harp of St. Paul, Minn.: six grandchildren, Jenna, Gilbert, Cherish, Cassidy, Joshua and Adam Jr. and five great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Willow. Autumn, Tanner and Trevor. Susan is also survived by her three sisters, Judy Travis of Tucson, Ariz., Barb Tritten of Saline, Mich. and Jan Frasher of Escanaba.

Susan was preceded in death by her in-laws, Buddy and Theresa Harp of Amarillo Texas, her parents Ralph and Frances Frasher of Escanaba, as well as her younger brother, Fred Frasher of Tucson, Ariz. and great-granddaughter Baby Charlotte.

Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on October 12 at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. There will be a Celebration of Life at American Legion Post NM19 of Conchas Dam, N.M. at 1 p.m. on October 26. An additional Celebration of Life will be held on November 2 at the Sleep Inn Motel Amarillo, 6915 I 40 W Amarillo, TX.
