BARK RIVER — James A. Castle Jr, 91, of Bark River, passed away Friday evening, December 9, 2022 at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center.

He was born on March 27, 1931 in Kalamazoo, Mich., son of James A. and Albertha (VanBrooke) Castle.

He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.

Among survivors include his children, Pam (Bill) Holroyd, Linda VanEffen, Dianne Nastoff, James Castle III, and Patricia (John) Reiffers; stepchildren, Carol (John) LaCosse and Debra (Jeff) Sanville; sister, Dorothy (Eugene) Pepin: a special person who was like a daughter to him, Tina (Todd) LaFave; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Smith; and sisters, Frances (Al) Asher and Donna (Chester) Yarborough.

Committal rites and military honors will take place on Friday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at OSF St. Francis Hospital and the Iron Mountain VA Hospice Unit.
