John L. Quinn
GLADSTONE — John L. Quinn, age 86, a lifelong resident of Gladstone up until July 2021, when he moved to Kingsford with his beloved wife Donna to be near his daughter, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. Donna preceded him in death on September 22, 2022.
John was born April 21, 1936 in Escanaba, Mich. the son of Frank and Matilda (VanDamme) Quinn. He was a 1955 graduate of Gladstone High School where he was a standout athlete earning All U.P. Honors in basketball and All Conference Honors in football.
John worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a brakeman/conductor until his retirement. He was united in marriage to Donna King on May 18, 1965. He was a devout member of All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. John loved to walk in the woods at camp, hunt, fish and especially icefish on Little Bay de Noc. He also enjoyed his weekly play in the Gladstone Men’s Cribbage Club. When he wasn’t outside he liked watching anything sports related on the television.
In later years, John enjoyed family gatherings, rides in the country and trips to the casino with his wife.
John is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Scott) Bray of Norway, Mich.; son, Tim (Shannon) Quinn of Sheboygan, Wis.; four grandchildren, John Edwardsen and Gannon Bray of Norway, Mich. Brandon and Alyshia Quinn of Sheboygan, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Lois Quinn and Carole King; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by brothers, Patrick, James, Thomas and Dennis Quinn; sisters, Mary Mae Kasten, Alice Wiltzius, Theresa Pouliot, Francis Cowell and Ann Rose Daly; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leona Quinn, Jane Quinn, Ralph Kasten, Ben Wiltzius, Marv Pouliot, Bob Daly, Julius, Edsil, Delore, Robert, Rodger, Harley, David, Madelyn, Arabelle, Lena, Audrey King and Elma Roberto.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. John will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring.
